Renewal policy — how year two is priced here

The renewal rate equals the card rate here — no intro-to-renewal step — and how that reads in the wider category.

Renewal policy

A renewal is the price you pay in year two. Almost every builder in this market prices year one at a promotional rung and renews at a step up — commonly 2x to 4.3x the intro rate — after you have already migrated your site.

How hosting renews here

Hosting plan renewal is intro-rate times years, with no special step. If a plan publishes "$7.49/mo", that is what it renews at in year two and year ten. This is stated on the pricing page and enforced by assertNoBaitAndSwitch in the build, which fails the deploy if a renewal rate ever diverges from the card.

Domains track the registry's cost, not a plan rate. A .com's wholesale price is set by Verisign, so our domain renewal moves when the registry's wholesale price moves, not when a promo ends — the same mechanism Cloudflare and Porkbun use.

What the intro-to-renewal step looks like, elsewhere

Working from the per-vendor captures the research corpus holds, here is what a sample of vendors' own pricing pages published, each with its as-of date:

VendorIntro rateRenewal rateMultipleDiscloses on the page?
Hostinger (Premium)$2.99/mo (48-mo prepay)$10.99/mo3.68xNo
Zarla$10.99/mo (36-mo prepay)$29.00/mo2.64xYes — and states what happens when the term ends
Wix$14.5/mo (promo)$29/mo (printed as the strike)2.00xYes — the strike is the disclosure
ZipWP$99/yr$149/yr1.51xYes

As of 2026-09-23, sourced from each vendor's own pricing pages and held in the internal research corpus. Numbers move; every figure carries its own date.

Three postures you will meet

  1. Flat rate — the card price is the renewal. Zarla, Carrd, Tilda and

Square Online sit here. Nothing expires, because nothing was discounted.

  1. Disclosed step — the intro rate is real, and the renewal rate is printed

beside it (Wix, ZipWP, fkw on the card; Zarla additionally states the transition rule).

  1. Hidden step — the intro rate is the headline; the renewal rate is either

unpublished or implied by a struck list price the customer must subtract (Hostinger, and IONOS Plus's $24 strike over a $20 renewal).

The posture you care about is rarely the magnitude alone — it is whether the vendor prints the second number before you buy, not after.
